Humanize Instruction

Replace indifference with curiosity.
Replace consumption with creativity.
Replace competition with collaboration.
Replace isolation with conversation.

Michael Fenton is one of a few folks out there who help me see through some of the distractions around what good teaching looks like. With so much emphasis on technology in the classroom, Michael questions whether or not we are filtering our actions through the appropriate lens. In other words, are we engaging with our students in a way that humanizes them? I love how he cuts to the chase, challenging some of my notions about how learning and engagement comes to pass. I especially love his final remarks about the kind of flipped classroom he wants to see… one of curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and conversation!

His presentation, Technology and the Curious Mind, is very brief {only 5 min. and 23 sec.} and worth a quick watch. Thanks to the Math Forum at Drexel University for sharing their Ignite sessions! They are spectacular! Michael also blogs at ReasonAndWonder.com and tweets at @mjfenton.
