The #OKMath PLN Multiplies! Join the Facebook Groups Today!

What has grown into an amazing community of #OKMath Teachers, the seedling of an idea that was hatched not quite 2 years ago has passed 1,100 members and took an amazing turn for the better. We now have grade-specific/subject-specific groups for secondary mathematics!

We hope you still continue to join and participate in the conversations on the parent group, #OKMath, but a space to connect specifically with other teachers in the same grade or course will be invaluable to our continued success in mathematics education in Oklahoma.

Also, there are discussions regarding how to move forward with groups for elementary as well. We are cautiously approaching this topic because we don’t necessarily want to create a situation where an elementary teacher has to join a new group for each and every subject they teach. If you have thoughts on this, you should add to the conversation here.

So, here are a few things you can do to kick off your participation in the new and improved #OKMath Professional Learning Network:

  1. Join #OKMath – This group is the one everyone should join. This is where we’ll continue to have great conversations about mathematics teaching and learning that everyone will want to be a part of.
  2. Pick Your Area and Join That Group (repeat as needed) – The existing groups are listed above. They are growing quickly and the conversations within the groups are already amazing!
  3. Introduce Yourself – Once you find your group(s), make it a point to introduce yourself to the group. Some of the groups already have a post where you can comment with your information. If there isn’t a post like this, you should make it!
  4. Search for Relevant Information – Did you know that you can search within a Facebook with ease? Here’s a quick video of how to do it!OKMath Facebook Search Function from OKMathTeachers on Vimeo.
  5. Ask and Answer – One of the great things about a Professional Learning Network is that you can actually feel okay about not knowing. It is hard to not know when folks on the internet can be so harsh about it. In a PLN though, this is the expectation. Ask questions. Answer others’ questions. Always do so with kindness in your heart! (Seriously…make sure you are protecting your PLN from any and all negativity that is aimed at a person. Everyone has to be aware the cyber-bullying can happen with adults too.)

Enjoy the new #OKMath PLNs! They are sure to be an amazing resource if folks like you join and participate!
